HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD/REN

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SCHOOL

For most of us, parents, choosing the ‘right’ school for our children can be a daunting task. For many parents, it is a toss between academic achievement, cultural learning, school culture and reputation, convenience and the child’s preference. Balancing all these and other factors can leave most parents with a headache, at the very least.

Do not let confusion paralyse you. You need to be empowered to make a good choice and the only way to arrive at a good decision

is to do your homework. This can include visits to a few schools that you have shortlisted; talking to parents, students and teachers; attending open-days; and checking out the school’s history in the media.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD AND HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE SCHOOL SEARCH

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SCHOOL: PREPARE WELL IN ADVANCE FOR THE FINAL DECISION

It is better to start the school search long before your child begins primary or high school. For most of us, matric or Grade 12 pass rate is a good indicator of a school’s performance. Keep a close watch at performance as early as possible so that you can concentrate your applications on the right schools when the time comes to apply. Each child is different, and an academically excellent school is not always a cultural fit for your child. Strike the balance – the school has to be right for your child.
