WHY PEOPLE CHEAT: WHAT TYPE OF A PERSON CHEATS ******************************************************** Cheating is the number one marriage-breaker; an ill that should be receiving much more scrutiny, and even much more reprove than it is. Society has somehow accepted this ill. This because society does not realise, or is turning a blind eye on how much this disease steals from people. I receive a lot of e-mails from spouses and partners, asking what they should do after discovering that their spouse/partner has been cheating. Cheating is a complicated topic, I have to acknowledge, and a lot of people who never thought they could stick it out and stay with someone who'd cheated, end up doing exactly that. So I always approach this subject with a lot of care, particularly when I am responding to people's e-mails. Even so, I generally do not think cheaters are worth anybody's time, honestly. Here's why I don't think they are worth it: I think behind every cheating act, lies a very unattractive lack of wisdom. Cheaters think they are clever and would never be found out, but they forget that cleverness is not sustainable because cleverness is not intelligence, and it is not wisdom. Behind every cheating act, lies a chronic lack of wisdom to see cheating and all the factors that supposedly drive a person to cheat, for the illusions that they are. I could write an entire book on this fact alone. Cheating is self-contamination and is disrespectful of oneself more than it is of another. No self-respecting person cheats. Why would any wise person want to live in fear of being found out? Cheaters cheat because of fear and lack of regard for themselves, but they end up living in a constant state of fear -they give away their freedom. They do not enjoy life. Fear, dread, remorse, guilt consume their happiness and always leave them worse off. No wise person would put themselves in such a terrible position.
